These colourful and printable letters of the alphabet show the degrees of rotation and the reflective symmetry. They are useful to have somewhere in the classroom so that when symmetry is discussed there are some examples that can easily be used. Questions that can be asked include:
- Do all versions of the capital letters have the same symmetry - e.g. the 'B' and the 'Q' that have drawn in this file are NOT symmetrical, but can students create versions of these letters that are?
- These letters are all drawn in Microsoft PowerPoint - can students use PowerPoint to draw their own?
- What about lowercase letters - which are (or can be) symmetrical?
- What words can be made using only symmetrical letters?
- What about numbers or mathematical symbols – which of these can be drawn so that they are symmetrical?
